For Therapists
Effective formal Supervision is a professional requirement for any registered Therapist/Counsellor, whether in training or after qualification. Working with clients makes regular Supervision vital, wherever the work goes on, in whatever setting. If your current arrangements feel less than effective for you (and therefore your clients), then it is probably time for a change in how you do things.
Effective Supervision is
- Supportive – helps us look after ourselves
- Educative – enables us to learn as we work
- Normative – keeps our practice ethical
So, I am now a Supervisor in Training after a decade in private practice as a registered Counsellor & Psychotherapist, working solely with adults 1:1, working face to face and online. I offer my Supervisees time and space to discuss their work, themselves, their work setting – whatever matters to them in their work, what is going well, and anything that is difficult or may be upsetting. Supervision is a chance to notice what clients may see and a therapist may overlook – it is a time to thrive, be creative and curious – a time to recognize your good work.
Lastly, as I’m a Trainee, it may be a time to save some money – my fees will be low.
